1. Set a realistic goal. Unless you are on a TV show, holed up in a canyon with personal trainers, doctors and nutritionists, you are not going to lose 10-15 pounds per week. Don’t even think about it. Set small goals as you work your way towards a bigger goal.

First, chose the big picture goal. For example ‘I want to lose fifty pounds in eight months’. Then decide on a small goal for yourself. ‘I want to lose two pounds in the next week’. When you reach this small goal, you’ll have the feeling of success. Celebrate each step of the way, you deserve it! This is going to make your journey more enjoyable.

One more thing about goals. Your goal should include more than just a measure of weight. To be truly inspiring your goal should include details about how you will feel and look in your new clothes. Write it down in vivid detail.

2. Broadcast it. Declare it to the world. Let everyone know what your intentions are. Post it online, shout it out your window or call a friend. Do whatever you need to do to make it public. Why? Letting everyone know makes your goals real and tangible. There’s no turning back now.

I would even suggest that you take a before photo and post it online. Take more pictures as you continue to lose weight. We all enjoy seeing the before and after shots of people who are successful at losing weight. Besides having your clothes fit more loosely, it’s the easiest way to see the results.
